Totally Bananas

A New Mother of 2

This is for my bloggy/message board buddy Amanda who just recently gave birth to her second little smidge and her first little boy (hehehe). Please go congratulate her – she rocks!!!

Listening to her give me flashbacks to exactly what my life was like when we brough Aiden home.  I cried more than I think I have ever cried in my life during those first few weeks.  I wanted to give him back in the worst way.  I can say that now because he’s sleeping at this very moment… and we’ve come a long way in a year.  James seeemed to adjust well until he started randomly banging his head on the walls and on the floor.  He went through days when he refused to eat – it was ugly.  Aiden was colicky to the point where we would just stare at him while he was screaming in what seemed to be agony and we had not the foggiest idea how to help him.

So for Amanda, I share this picture and the trip down memory sidewalk (hasn’t been long enough to be a lane) that goes along with it…

Aiden was born on 8.16, and this picture was taken on 9.7 so he was just over 3 weeks old.  He’s in his swing which is right next to the couch.  James is napping.  After I put James in his crib, I put Aiden in his swing and I sat on the couch while he screamed.  I must have put my head down and tuned him out because I fell asleep and when I woke up the house was silent and this was what was looking at me.  It was the first time I was able to admire him with a clear head.  I had quiet time with him without having to worry about James, or him breaking into a screaming fit – trust me I didn’t touch him while I was admiring.

This was not the point where things got better, that was truly a process that we are still in.  But I will forever remember that moment when I look at this picture.

Oh, Shanna. I’ve got tears in my eyes! I just can’t imagine colic. CANNOT IMAGINE. And I totally understand about not being able to admire him…*sigh*. I feel bad at how much I have NOT admired him in comparison to Lydia.

Thanks for the encouragement–a whole post’s worth! You’re the best!

(and really, how cute is Aiden in that pic?!)
